Shadow Guardian Stables:
Shires

The Shire is a large impressive draft or war horse: a mature stallion stands between 16.2 and 18 hands and weighs up to 2200 pounds. Mares and geldings are slightly less massive. It has relatively large, wide-set and expressive and intelligent eyes. Powerful shoulders, massive hindquarters, rounded loins and extremely powerful legs with abundant feathering of the feet complete the picture. Shires are intelligent and display an eagerness to learn and are easy to handle despite their great size.

Shadow Guardian Stables breeding program currently has several shires for sale.   For additional information on purchasing a SGS Shire, please contact Des Sunhaven-Hayll.

Duke Duchess

Duke and Duchess were purchased along with Judge and Bo Jangles when it became evident that there would be times powerful draft horses would be needed by the stable and by the Shadow Guardians.  Both horses are beautifully configured Shires, and their even temperaments quickly made them favorites.  They are primarily used as a draft team.

Lady Anne

Junior

Princess

Bonnie

Delivered by Joachim, who had happened to have overheard Des admiring Duke and Duchess one day. Lady Anne and Junior are both very large,  approaching 18 hh.   Junior has been trained as mount and a draft horse, Lady Anne received extensive training as a battle mare prior to her arrival at SGS and is a favorite choice as a mount in jousts.  Princess and Bonnie are a matched pair of half sisters and have been trained for riding and jousting, but are primarily used as a draft team.  A breeding program has been started using both Junior as a stud and Auden Hayll's personal mount Brute, and there are now several foals at the stable.  The most recent additions are a pair of twins out of Princess, sired by Brute.
