Families tend to out grow their first home, it's simply a fact of life.
And it most certainly was true for the Guardians. Yet while there
appeared to be more and more ways the Shadow Fortress did not meet the needs
of the Guardians, the Sunhaven was determined it would always be their home...
well, at least one of their homes. And thus came into
being the Manor.
The Manor has 3
stories and a penthouse on the roof in addition to a simply enormous basement. Great thought and care went into the
building's planning and construction. As there was a great call for
windows up at the Fortress, every room was designed to have several. The
building is thoroughly warded against fire and flood, the framework and
physical structure magically
reinforced to stand great and extreme stresses, and all the glass used in the
building was also magically enhanced to be unbreakable. In contrast to
the Fortress where none may enter save a Family member, the Manor was designed
to be open and welcoming although there are established security protocols and
procedures for the Shadow Guards stationed there.
The first or main level
is predominately common areas to be used and enjoyed by all the
Guardians. These
common areas include the Dining Area and Kitchen run by Lark Meadowspur, who serves as
major domo for the Manor and oversees the smooth operation of the massive
structure. Lark has a different policy about the kitchen and it's use than Welgrath
up at the Fortress. People are welcome in it. There is even a large table and chairs
where individuals can gather and chat and sip coffee and snack. Also found on the
main level are the Party Wing, designed to be able to hold any and all guests
the Guardians may wish to invite. Very popular is the wide covered porch
in the front of the building, with it's many flowers and plants, it's porch swings and scattered seating. The first floor also holds the best prepared
and staffed Infirmary possible. The Common Room/Library is full of windows and
built in bookcases and window seats and cozy seating arrangements. In part due
to the Sunhaven's insistence that the Manor was first and foremost to be a
home, for the most part all offices and work related areas were kept out of the Manor, all
those needs would be still fulfilled within the designated areas of the Shadow Fortress.
The second and third floors are basically identical. Both floors
have a wide deck along the outer wall and all the rooms have a door out
on to the deck. There are lounges and chairs scattered along the deck, and many
find it is a lovely place to relax. At this time there is no access to either deck save through the
building. Each room depicted on the floor plan below is actually a suite of rooms,
and many of the suites have connecting doors between them. Each suite has a sitting room with a small hearth, a bedroom, and a bath. The bath has hot and cold running water, and sanitary facilities, and the plumbing
has been installed for a tub. If a bath tub is desired, it is recommended the individual desiring such
contact Ro'Nar. The rooms are unfurnished but the basic furniture needs have been purchased for the guild and stored
in the basement and simply require selection and placement.
The basement is huge, taking up the entire size of the building and is under the
inner courtyard too. There is a ramp large enough to drive a wagon down leading
into the basement under the party wing to bring supplies in. There is a trap
door behind the bar in the party wing that opens to a circular staircase to the
basement, and a dumbwaiter behind the bar also for hauling kegs and whatnots up
and down. There is also a circular staircase down to the basement in the kitchen
down to food storage areas. There are also a few rooms available down there, for
those who don't want windows.
As many of the Guardians seemed to find the roof and
battlements of the Fortress an ideal place to meet or relax, the roof of the
Manor was designed in part to accommodate them. There is a wooden deck
installed and the view is excellent. Half of the roof is devoted to the
Sunhaven's private quarters for her family, the structure predominately glass
to let in as much of the brilliant sun as
possible.
All Guardians are encouraged
to select an open suite and notify the Sunhaven of their choice and the
Directory for that floor will be updated to indicate the occupancy of that
suite. All are encouraged to maintain some degree of residency, even those
residing predominately elsewhere, as there may be times when events and
activities make for long tiring hours. If a conflict does arise
over the selection of a room, it will be resolved by the Sunhaven or Lark..
